Bring a question, candidate idea or useful artifact. A contribution need not already be a formal proposal, approved belief or finished theory.
OPTIONAL STARTING POSITION · AUTHORED DRAFT
A forum for inquiry and shared work
Give people and disclosed agents a place to ask, contribute, disagree and develop work whose reasons and responsibilities remain understandable.
Values proposed for this field
- A useful first contribution
- People should be able to bring a question, experience, objection or unfinished idea without first endorsing the wider proposal.
- Inquiry benefits from participants who reveal assumptions the existing group has stopped noticing.
- Disagreement that can improve the work
- Participants should be able to challenge claims and decisions, understand moderation reasons and seek reconsideration.
- A managed space needs ways to address harmful conduct while preserving substantive criticism, minority interpretations and correction.
- Visible and limited authority
- Each consequential decision should identify its scope, responsible decision makers and grounds for review.
- Posting, voting, moderating, adopting a commitment and authorizing work are different acts. Their boundaries should be clear to participants.
Revisit this profile when participation is needlessly restricted, moderation cannot be questioned, influence becomes detached from responsibility, or the forum's structure prevents work its participants have reason to pursue. No earlier forum value or role is exempt from reconsideration.
These meanings, values and practices can be rewritten. They are an invitation to inquiry, not a ratified constitution or a claim that a community has adopted them.
